⬤ Elon Musk was the most affected by the decline, losing $84 billion of his wealth due to Tesla's faltering performance during the month.

⬤ When the DeepSeek R1 AI model was launched, the world's richest people lost $94 billion at once before recovering.

January was a holiday for the world's richest people, as their wealth increased by an average of $10 billion per day, but the holiday quickly turned into a funeral, as February saw their wealth decrease by an average of $5 billion per day, in a sharp and very rapid shift.

According to estimates, the wealth of the world's richest people, led by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, and Larry Ellison, technical director of Oracle, increased by $314 billion, which is equivalent to the wages of 15 million workers, during January, while their wealth decreased by $138 billion during February.

During February, Musk’s fortune fell from $433 billion to $349 billion, a massive loss of $84 billion, while Zuckerberg’s fortune fell from $243 billion to $232 billion, a loss of $11 billion, while Ellison’s fortune fell by $9 billion.

This comes after the overwhelming success of the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek, which was praised by leaders like Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and stunned competitors like Meta and OpenAI, and terrified investors in the shares of American tech giants, especially Nvidia, causing them to lose a massive $1 trillion in just one day (most of which was later recovered).

Despite Huang’s praise, DeepSeek, which is worth $1 billion, caused Nvidia to lose a whopping $600 billion in a massive stock selloff, the largest loss in U.S. stock history, and Huang’s personal fortune fell by $20 billion to $103 billion, though the company quickly recovered most of that in the days that followed. DeepSeek is estimated to have wiped out $94 billion from the fortunes of global tech leaders, with Ellison’s fortune falling by $27.6 billion, dropping him from third to fifth richest person in the world, while Dell CEO Michael Dell’s fortune fell by $12.4 billion and Google founder Larry Page’s fortune fell by $6.3 billion.
